What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

San Antonio Air Service Experts in San Antonio always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it truly mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all people in the industry are required to be certified through NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to San Antonio Air Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since San Antonio Air Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
