Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioning unit around the clock to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to stop by and perform your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let an expert do that, but you can clean up the space around your system to clear away sticks and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the A/C and cut back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

San Antonio Air Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular cooling equipment service. Remember, a clogged filter could possibly damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. Remember to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

An annual AC tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call San Antonio Air Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you cool and comfortable all summer and ask about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
